What is the Matrix Rain screensaver?
A canvas-based recreation of the classic falling-glyph "digital rain" effect. Green characters cascade from the top of the screen on a black background, adjustable on the fly with the speed slider.
How to use it
- Drag the Speed slider to make the rain faster or slower.
- Press Fullscreen and let it run on a second monitor or an idle TV.
- Hit Esc to exit fullscreen at any time.
Where this effect works well
Streaming backdrops
Drop the Matrix rain behind gameplay, coding streams, or tech explainers. It works as a standing-in-for-hacker backdrop without needing OBS plugins.
Ambient displays
Turn a spare monitor or TV into an idle-loop that still looks cool. The animation runs efficiently on a single canvas and doesn’t peg the CPU.
Parties & events
Project it on a wall at a tech-themed event. The effect reads from across the room, loops forever, and requires no setup beyond a browser.
Just because it’s pretty
Some things don’t need a use case. This is one of them.
